San Antonio is home to a famous historic downtown. The Alamo, originally a compound built by the Spanish for missionary services, it was used most famously as a fortress during the Battle of Alamo. Texan forces in 1836 held the fortress against the Mexican army for 13 days, eventually, all Texan soldiers were taken and the Alamo fell.
