I am not married to a Veteran but I am the 38 yr old child of one. I have seen it all, from the severe drug abuse to him hating my mom, he threatens to kill us at least 2 or 3 times a year, drinks all of the time. So you name it and I have probably seen it. I have had him put in the VA for treatment but they didnt help at all. I wish so bad that something, anything, could be done to help him. I did read the DoD Financial Managemnt Regulation and I had seen this before which is why I am asking the question why did I have to repay my SSB payment. I left the military in 1999 upon completion of the three years of reserve duty we had to agree to. My understanding is that the member affected by this recoupment of SSB is member who became eligible for retired pay. Its my understanding that if you did not retire, go back on active duty or take a govenment job within 180 days after you left the military you would have to repay the SSB payment.
