[Update2] Free Flowers For Troops

UPDATE2 – Remember that Friday is the deadline for submissions. But, that’s not all. I have a special offer for ALL of you that you can only get here. An exclusive You Served offer of 20% off on ALL orders PLUS a free glass vase, but you have to use THIS LINK.

UPDATE - I will adding answers to questions below, so check back often as more information becomes available.

ProFlowers.com and eMailOurMilitary.com have teamed up with me for an awesome offer. They want to thank our troops for the tremendous work they do on a daily basis and have come to me and a select few other milbloggers for help getting this out. They don’t want big productions, just to say thanks.

To say thanks, Proflowers.com has given me FIVE free $70 gift certificates to give away as I see fit. So, here’s how I’m going to work it. If you know a Soldier or Spouse that deserves free flowers, send me an essay on why you think that person deserves to win one of these e-gift certificates. Now, I know ALL military family members deserve free flowers, but I can’t give them to everyone. The essay should no more than 250 words. In addition to this offer, I will have a special gift for EVERY entry I receive. Send all entries to cj@soldiersperspective.us

Remember, that Proflowers.com is more than just flowers. The winning troops can use the e-gift certificates to purchase flowers, fruit baskets, spa treatments and the many other items that the website offers. So, this is a great gift for both males and females. I will send the winners a gift code that can be applied immediately and in time for a Valentine’s Day delivery.

Feel free to send this to as many people as you feel like and post on your blogs as well. The cut-off for submissions is 6 Feb, with winners being announced on 9 Feb – in time for Valentine’s Day.

Q: Can I nominate more than one service member?
A: Yes, as long as you provide a separate essay for each one and understand that one may be chosen over the other in the voting.

Q: Is this open to just the Army?
A: No. This contest is open to ALL service members, regardless of branch of service. I say “Soldiers” much like people use “he” as an all-inclusive term. Feel free to submit Marines, Airmen, Sailors, etc! They all deserve free flowers on Valentine’s Day.

Q: Can I nominate Emily (my wife)?
A: No. That wouldn’t be fair since I’m running the competition. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that Emily is not forgotten on Valentine’s Day!

I belong to Soldiers’ Angels. We support the troops, therefore we support their families.

Vickie is married to a combat medic on his second deployment. Like any good mother, Vickie looks out for her family. She asked us for cards of encouragement for her five kids. I’m sending them a box like I send the soldirs.

I think Vickie could use some flowers.

If Vickie doesn’t get flowers for Valentine’s Day I will not be happy. My dogs & I will hunt you down!

Medics are the true first responders. Who else will dodge bullets & mortars to patch up your sorry behind?

Just kidding about the hunting down thing!

    Mike

  4. Charity begins at home. Our own Angel Daphne who works a Nellis AFB just fell and broke her ankle. It required her husband to return from deployment to help with the children. That would be alot of stress for any family. I think those flowers would be a wonderful way to relieve the stress and give her a lift from the group of people that she is so dedicated to helping. Please surprise Daphane with thses beautiful flowers and make her day!

    Thank you,

    Barbara Eigner

  7. I nominate Dena Yllescas to receive flowers. Her precious warrior husband, CPT Rob Yllescas, was wounded in Afghanistan in an IED blast and died a month later on 1 December, 2008. She has moved back to Nebraska to raise her two daughters, 7 and 1. She is a very brave woman who will not receive flowers from her husband this Valentines Day.
    Thank you,
    Laurie Want

  8. Oh I second Dena. After the year she has had, I think she and her girls most definitely deserve flowers, at the least.

And don’t worry about Mike’s threat to hunt you down. lol He KNOWS I will set Bratdog on him…;)

  9. I nominate Sandra who deals day out and day in with a disabled husband. He was injured in the service but thought he had recovered, and he married and he never and she never thought life would throw a juicy curve ball at them of him not being able to work due to injuries and multiple surgeries..her husband is home 24/7/365 and unable to function like most people but D.C. is still looking at their paperwork a dozen years later waiting to approve 100 disabilty. I know she has not gotten her hair done and sacrifices alot, so she can be home with him, they make things work, going month to month, surgery, hospitalizations and more(he has heart-back- shoulder- kidney- all sorts of problems). He does not help, and basically cannot due to back and leg problems, so she does 99percent of it all at home and does it with a smile, saying he is the light of her life as well as the kids. Come holidays she does not expect anything and even goes out to help to make sure the veterans alone at the hospital get something too if her husband is in. It is scary being a spouse of someone serving- but where does your heart go when you married him after he served and they say she is not eligible for alot, and no longer asks for it. Maybe a little color to brighten her day and make her smile, and would be great if her husbands name could be signed as a huge surprise.

  10. I nominate my female soldier Ana. She has been through so much this past year or so. She was suppose to return home but decided to stay in the sandbox as they needed her talents, plus her mom is in a nursing home and she is helping with that financially. She works nights, gets very little sleep and not much support. She is a quiet young lady, but very commited to being a great soldier.

    Thank you,
    Anna Conway
