I was there on board USS Reeves CG-24, with battle group Coral Sea at Gonzo or as we called it Camel Station. We received the Navy Expeditionary medal awarded as soon as we began the return. My friend who was a ranger on site at Desert One can not even prove he was there. He wants to join the VFW and I was told if he ever set foot in Iran he was eligible. Why no recognition for those guys?? The only medals the army gave were Purple Hearts. I would like some answers??!!??

I was at Desert 1 myself. I was a POL Specialist (Air Force) aboard the C130 that the Helo crashed into. I (and everyone else I knew who was involved with the mission) received a Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
