Clinton Calls for GI ‘Bill of Rights’

Hillary Rodham Clinton offered a new GI “Bill of Rights” for men and women in uniform.
The New York senator, who leads early polls of Democratic contenders for the party’s nomination, said she would put together a package of proposals designed to ensure troops have all the equipment they need when they’re deployed, to ensure they receive proper health care, and to provide for families.

[Editorial comment: Unfortunately, she felt the need to integrate politics into her actions and also argued that Democrats can do a better job of protecting and providing for U.S. troops than the Republican administration. Attempting to help troops is admirable, taking stabs at the opposition at every opportunity is not. Do things because they are right, not solely for the purpose of advancing your political career.]

  1. It’s O.K. to jump on the bandwagon, now that’s the word is out. And now, they’re all going to fix it, and it’s the Republican’s fault. How is it these politicians were all unaware?

“How is it these politicians were all unaware?”

It’s not as if veterans ask or inform many Democrats of anything. Most of us are Republican sock puppets, at least until a Repub Administration utterly takes us for granted. “Bushfeld” treats us as expendable corporate assets and shows nothing like the Reagan Administration concern for the troops.
Hillary is wisely exploiting the wretched ignore-the-troops-except-for-photo-ops record of the Repubs. We “went to war with the Army we had” because the people responsible for running it dropped the ball in terms of being ready for MOUT.
“Do things because they are right, not solely for the purpose of advancing your political career.” fits both sides.
I hope the bill passes as I’m a “VEAP victim”, retiring after 26 years in the USAF. It would do the same things for retiring/seperating vets now as it did for my father after WWII.

the president just does not understand that when the shooting stops the obligation to our vets does not. i guess you cant expect much from a man who never showed up for his flight physical and was grounded, if memory serves me right i believe it cost about 500,000 dollars to train someone to fly a F102. i got a written order from my co to report to the base hospital at such and such a time and date, i took the same oath to defend my country and obey the orders of my superior officers. if i had not showed up i would have been in a big jam and got at least an article 15. not a damn thing happned to that man, who was unfit to wear the same uniform we did. i listen to the right wing radio guys who never served a day under arms[ rush got a deferment, no kidding, because he had a boil on his ass] call me unpatriotic as i think this war is imoral and wrong. thanks for reading. a/1c steve callahan 1960- 1965 usaf
