GI Bill may expand to cover more job training
February 13th, 2007 (9:45 am) by You Served Editorial Staff-The Veterans Employment and Training Act of 2007 (the VET Act), introduced Feb. 8 in the Senate, would provide lump-sum payments for veterans enrolled in high-tech or specialized training leading to immediate employment. The one time payment would be part of a GI Bill education benefits program and would apply to the energy, transportation, hospitality and construction fields. ‘Under the bill, GI Bill benefits that traditionally are paid monthly could be used to make one-time, lump-sum payments for training courses that are approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. GI Bill benefits could be used to cover part of the costs of such courses.’
