VAMC raises $431,594 for the United Way in 2010!

The employees, along with a company dollar for dollar match, of VAMortgageCenter donated $431,594 this year in our United Way Campaign. With that amount raised, VAMC is not only a community corporate leader with the United Way Pacesetter Company recognition, we were a leader within the Pacesetter companies. The money raised will go a long way in our community.

The 2010 efforts almost doubled the previous year total of $222,744 raised in 2009. Knowing that we are going to be helping families that need food, children that need a mentor, and so many other people in need in our community is a great source of pride for VAMC.

In 2008, VAMortgageCenter was a United Way Pacesetter Company in our company's first United Way employee campaign. Becoming a Pacesetter Company for the United Way in our first was such a great honor to all those involved at VAMortgageCenter and we look forward to many years being associated with helping raise funds for the United Way and their associated organizations.

The Dream Factory

In 2009, VAMortgageCenter was named the National Corporate Sponsor of the Year for The Dream Factory. The Dream Factory makes a 'dream' come true for critically and chronically ill children. This year, The Dream Factory sponsored a child and his family to visit Pearl Harbor. A group of VAMC employees raised over $60,000 to make 15 more 'dreams' comes true in this years Dream Factory Poker Tournament. These employees are planning on making the poker tournament next year bigger and better!

VAMC Reaches Out to 3 National Military Charities

VAMortgageCenter employees continued to support an array of charities dedicating to helping veterans and their families this January. As always, these efforts were funded completely by VAMC employee contributions.

We're proud to support the following groups, as VAMC recently donated $70,000 to three national military charities. Including:

  • $30,000 to Homes for Our Troops
  • This national nonprofit helps build homes for veterans who have been injured or disabled since the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
  • $15,000 to Fisher House
  • Fisher House Foundation provides 'comfort homes' at military and VA medical centers so family members can be near a loved one during a time of hospitalization. There is no charge for a family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • $20,000 to The Wounded Warrior Project
  • The Wounded Warrior Project provides unique programs and services to aid severely injured service members.

Coyote Hill 5k

National Coalition for Homeless Veterans

Giving back to the military and their families expands much farther than our scholarship program. In 2008, VAMortgageCenter was named a "Corporate Partner of the Year" by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. The NCHV assists community and state organizations that provide services to homeless veterans in their community and state. To learn more about the NCHV please visit their website.

Paralyzed Veterans of America

Paralyzed Veterans of America

High School Students

VAMortgageCenter has even donated to science. A contribution by VAMortgageCenter employees made possible the scientific investigation of a group of students at Ponchatoula High School in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, these students were able to test soil and water samples throughout their community.

Fisher House

VAMortgageCenter's blog, YouServed, has set up an Ebay store in which the store sells off donated merchandise from the guests on the weekly podcast. All of the proceeds from the sales of this merchandise goes to benefit the Fisher House. The Fisher House provides arrangements for military families to be close to their wounded veteran.

Soldier's Angel's Operation Valour-IT

For Veterans Day 2008, YouServed put together a virtual veterans day parade and with that parade came a donation to Soldier's Angel's Operation Valour-IT which provides voice controlled/adaptive computers to support wounded veterans. These IT products are donated to help soldiers with hand wounds and other severe injuries. VAMortgageCenter was proud to contribute to the Operation Valour-IT.

Charity for Charities

VAMortgageCenter collaborated with AllMilitary to form the Charity for Charities give away. This contest was designed to give back to those charities that give most to our veterans. Winners included the overall winner Soldier's Angels. Nine other charities also won contributions from the give away as well.

Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation

VAMortgageCenter had an opportunity to meet a few children who are battling for their lives. Hearing their personal stories of courage made us realize that most of our struggles fall a distant second to what these amazing children have to go through.
