In order to qualify for a VA Home Loan in Alaska, there are certain qualifications military personnel must meet. You must be either on active duty for at least 90 days during war time and 181 days during peacetime. National Guard and Military Reservists must have served for at least six years. Spouses of deceased military personnel are also eligible if they have not remarried and their spouse died during war time or military related injury.
In addition to meeting the service requirements you will need to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE). The COE is the proof that you are eligible for a VA Loan. In order to receive your certificate you must first fill out a VA Form 26-1880. If you do not have one a lender may be able to assist you in the process.
You do not have to be a first time home buyer in order to reap the benefits of the VA Home Loan. You are eligible of a VA Loan even if you have another VA Loan. There is no private mortgage insurance on a VA Loan. Spouses of deceased veterans are also eligible for a VA Loan.
