Environmental Science - High School Project

A group of students at Ponchatoula High School, located in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, are out to make a difference for their community. Led by chemistry teacher, Melanie Monistere, students have begun an extensive environmental study called the "Environmentality" Project.

Thank You Note

With the donation from VA Mortgage Center.com, students are able to test water and soil samples from around the Ponchatoula community using testing kits. The students are designing experiments, formulating hypotheses, testing, analyzing, and concluding their findings.

"The Environmentality Project has given my students the opportunity to not only have hands-on materials, but to also collaborate with each other on a higher level," says Monistere. Monistere says that this project has given her students great pride and ownership in their community.

VA Mortgage Center.com is proud to help high school students with their science projects and learn more about how to protect our environment. Read some of the cards we received from the students in the Environmentality project below, or find other ways we give back to the community on our about us page.

A Letter from their Teacher

Dear VA Mortgage Center.com

I would like to express my deepest appreciation for donating to the "Environmentality" Project for my Chemistry II high school students. My students have been working on this project since January 2009. They had to begin by researching the environment of our community. The students then had to design experiments to test water and soil around our school, community, local watershed, and local state park. Once the experiment was written and approved, the students collected water and soil samples from all locations, analyzed the samples using the testing kits, and concluded their findings by sharing this project with their peers.

"Environmentality" Project has given my students the opportunity to not only have hands-on materials, but to also collaborate with each other on a higher level. This project has given my students ownership and pride to be an important member of society in taking care of their surroundings.

Once again, I would like to thank you for being generous contributor to this venture.

Sincerely,

Melanie Monistere
