After Action Report With American Soldier

In this terribly audible video, we interview American Soldier blogger Matt. This interview was conducted in the lobby at the end of the conference, so the audio is overmodulated and very noisy. But, it’s still recognizable so we’re posting it!

Mother’s Day Salute

I would like to do a salute to mom this coming Saturday on the next You Served Spouse and Family Blog Talk radio show. I would like for you to send in your “Happy Mother’s Day” wish to your special mom, and let me read it off on the show that airs the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

Send me your first name, military affiliation (retired, active, reserves, currently deployed, veteran, branch, spouse, child, etc), your mother’s first name, and a short message you would like for me to read on the air to her. I will read these at the close of the radio show on Saturday, so you can have mom listen then, or she can listen to the archived show on demand to hear your wish, salute or shout out to her on her special day.

Email your information to claire@kneedeepinthehooah.com OR you may post them here if you prefer.
Please pass this information on to all military members you know… especially to any deployed members who would like the opportunity to give mom a little added praise this year. Any deployed members who send in a request will get priority if I have get a lot of requests. I will do my best to read as many as I can.

Conference Wrap-up With Greta and Lindy

I sit down for a few minutes with Greta Perry, from Kiss My Gumbo, and Lindy Kyzer, from Army Public Affairs, to talk a little about their experiences at the 2009 Milblog Conference in Washington, D.C.

Panel #4 – 2009 Milblog Conference

This panel is titled “The New Media Agora”. This one of the more popular panels in my opinion, which was odd considering it was the last and people were getting tired. What is the impact of the “new media” on issues concerning national security, military doctrine and concept development, training, education, and lessons learned? A discussion of the issue by those at the frontlines of the debate by Moderator, Greyhawk of Mudville Gazette; Andrew Exum of Abu Magawama, Bill Nagle of Small Wars Journal, Bill Roggio of The Long War Journal.

This is a bit long, so it may take awhile to download.

In this video, we sit down with Uncle Jimbo from Blackfive and SOG Media to discuss his thoughts on how the conference went this year. Jimbo, never one to shy away from honest assessment, graciously spoke with Troy:

Support Any Soldier

Last week, one of our guests on the You Served Radio Show was Wesley Gray, author of “Embedded: A Marine Corps Adviser Inside the Iraqi Army”. If you caught the show and are thinking about purchasing the book, you can not only get the book, but support a great charity like Any Soldier.

Before purchasing the book, go HERE and use their link. By buying the book through their site, a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the organization. And you don’t pay anything extra for it!!

Two Facts, One Lie About Matt From Blackfive

In this video, we test fellow Blackfive writer, Bill Paisley, on his knowledge of Blackfive founder Matt Burden.

Pat McGee – Come Back Home

The moving story behind this song is tragic, inspiring and is best told by Pat himself…

“Come Back Home was written in the wake of me losing my longtime drummer and former Army soldier John C. Williams. But the song started off as a reflection of how a military couple deals with separation. After the release of Come Back Home, Johns little brother was killed by an IED in Iraq. His name was Blake Williams. His platoon used this track as the audio to a memorial slide show presentation they did in March of 2008. It was for all the courageous men and women they had lost in the month of March.

I am humbled by their service to our great country and I hope this song brings them some peace. My father served in Vietnam and I truly appreciate their dedication and bravery.” -Pat McGee

They have created their own slideshow as the music video for the song.
