President Bush met today with Iraqi President Talabani. During a joint press conference, Talabani openly praised American actions to free the country and our military’s successes.
“I think it’s clear that we are in Iraq looking to you as a hero of liberation of Iraq from worst kind of dictatorship,” Talabani stated during the conference. “I think you know very well that you and we in Iraq achieved very good successes on terrorism. Now I can say all parts of Iraq liberated from terrorist control and activities.”
He went on to clarify that there are still terrorists pockets located throughout the country, but for the most part they have been defeated or are on the run.
Just two short years ago, no one would have thought that there would ever be peace in places like Sadr City, Ramadi, Fallujah, and Mahmudiya. However, these places are all under the control of Iraqi security forces with support from our troops. Thanks to the efforts of the surge and the never quit attitude of our troops, the Iraqi government can focus on much needed reconstruction.
Many countries are opening up embassies in Iraq. Jobs are being created practically every day. The market is booming. These jobs and opportunities are available to ALL Iraqi citizens, not just the privileged few who belong to a repressive party under Saddam. And, the truth is that the Iraqi people recognize who made this all possible.
President Talabani ended his meeting by saying, “we will never forget what you have done for our people.”
