Metallica – The Day That Never Comes

Metallica is getting ready to release their latest album, “Death Magnetic”. They have already released three singles on iTunes from the new album. But, what I want to direct your attention to is their latest single and video titled “The Day That Never Comes”. For those of you that remember the “One” video, this video will take you back to those days when Metallica was known for epic tunes that kicked ass and told a compelling story. “The Day That Never Comes” revives that recipe and follows what looks like a Marine whose buddy is killed in an IED attack. The obvious rage and sense of revenge is seen in his eyes as the music tells him to “wait for the one/the day that never comes”. Later, this same Marine is confronted with what appears to be a broken down vehicle in the middle of the road trying to get the Marines to help him with fix it. The Marine is seconds away from pulling the trigger when his wife, dressed in a full abaya from head to toe, steps out of the vehicle. Things really heat up as the Marine who is still dealing with the loss of his battle buddy is confronted with a life or death situation: is this lady going to kill me. Watch the video to see the whole story:

You can mute it if you don’t like this kind of music.
It was filmed at my old stomping grounds, Fort Irwin, California and National Training Center. The video is available on iTunes as well. Ladies and gentlemen, like heavy metal or not, this video needs to be seen far and wide. The video accurately portrays the split-second decisions that our troops have to make EVERY DAY. I can’t count how many times I thought the characters in the video were goners and kept cringing thinking that they were going to pull the trigger. I wouldn’t have blamed them if they did.
I rate this one – Pure, unadulterated GENIUS! Congratulations to film director Dane Thomas Vinterberg for bringing our very real plight to so many.
