Boo Hoo

Obviously, Mohammed Jawad, an Afghan detainee charged with attempted murder at Guantanamo, doesn’t have any kids. The poor guy is complaining that Soldiers at GITMO won’t let him sleep. I say, “you’ll sleep when you’re dead.”

“Day and night, they were shifting me from one room to another,” Jawad said.

Here ya go, Jawad. Play me a sad, sad song:

His testimony came in a pretrial hearing at the U.S. war crimes court. Lawyers and human rights groups have accused the military of using sleep deprivation to “soften up” Guantanamo detainees for questioning, but this was the first time a prisoner testified about such treatment.

Jawad’s defense has asked the military judge, Army Col. Stephen Henley, to dismiss the charges, saying the sleep deprivation amounted to torture. Prosecutors deny the treatment was torture.

If sleep deprivation is torture, I’d like to sue my neighbor, my alarm clock, my kids, my wife, my snoring, my bad dreams, and my job! All of which contribute to my lack of ability to sleep. I’m lucky if I get three hours of nonstop sleep. Come to think of it, I bet Emily would like to sue ME for torturing HER!!

Ladies and gentlemen, sleep deprivation is NOT torture. It’s doesn’t hurt and there are very specific rules for its use in the military (which I won’t explain because I don’t give away our techniques to the enemy). I did find this little tidbit interesting, though:

“Islam never permits suicide … but it was beyond my control,” he told the court through a Pashto interpreter. “That’s why I tried that.”

REHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEALLY!?!?!?! Too bad it’s too late to explain that to so many of his buddies. Perhaps we could give Jawad a computer and allow him to blog about that for the Muslim world to read. We could fix Iraq so much faster without the added distractions of people violating their religious principles.
