Sounds to me like Chambliss just said, "Screw you voter, I support this bill and you need to get on board!" how can we worry about third world nations living on $1 a day when we have people in this country living on $0?!

CJ, I contacted both of GAs Senators. Senator Saxby Chamblis gave this reply:

Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 2433, the "Global Poverty Act." I appreciate hearing from you.

           S. 2433 was introduced on December 7, 2008, and referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. This bill would require the President to further develop our foreign policy to reduce global poverty and to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of reducing the proportion of people worldwide who live on less than $1 per day.

The arguments for encouraging democracy, providing humanitarian assistance, and protecting American strategic interests abroad are compelling, but they must be balanced against domestic priorities and the need to control overall federal spending.

My support for any foreign aid component will continue to be based on its relevance to national security and other important U.S. interests. Should this legislation come before the full Senate for consideration, I will keep you r comments in mind.
