I enjoy your blog. I am prior service, 11B3V. With the new age reqs I am eligible to rejoin the NG at my old rank. I told the recruiter that the only way I would do so was if I could be assured of deploying to a combat zone. I have built a couple of businesses that will provide for my family so that we can survive on a soldiers pay, so I am excited about the opportunity to do my part in the WOT. My concern is this: The NG unit that I will be assigned to will have the mission of training Afghan forces. I don't fell that I am getting a straight answer when I ask recruiters and chain of command whether I will have substantial chance to engage the enemy on the field of battle. I am assuming that training would include leading them on "live"
patrols but don't know for sure. I don't want to deploy just to be a REMF. Do you have resources or contacts that could give me insight into what my chances are to get into the fight in this situation, or if there is another guard unit that I could deploy with, that will see ample opportunity to kill terrorists?

Thanks for your help, Jerry

What do you think about the Marines wanting to take over the Afghanistan effort & pull out of Iraq (making it all-Army)?
