I have 6 children – 1 Major,1 Captain, 1 Sgt and 1 Major who had to resign her commission because her baby was just 4 days old when she was put on orders. her husband is a Major as well. All have served in Irag, Afghanistgan and Kosovo. Yes I worry about them, but I raised honorable, moral, service oriented adults and would expect no less than that when orders come they say Yes sir and move out. The deaths are painful but as we know freedom isn’t free. When I hear comments from people that we should just leave Im aghast that they have so little understanding of what our men and women in uniform do for this country.

You Milbloggers ROCK! Does not this DougS guy realize that the only reason he has the freedom to spout off his BS rhetoric is because of the 1000+ AMERICAN SOLDIERS who willingly sacrificed their life for that freedom? Throughout history, we have had untold numbers of Americans who gave their life to ensure those same freedoms remained. My answer to him, would have to be “If you don’t like the way OUR country is operated, then GET THE HELL OUT! And Don’t let the door hit you in the arse when you go!”

Then perhaps you tell me where Lt. Cmdr. Michael Speicher is? Saddam tried to kill Bush 41 with a truck loaded with over 400 lbs of high explosives. is that contained? Saddam frequently shot at our planes patrolling UN mandated (though I truly hate the UN and spit just imagining I’m using this as a point) no-fly zones. Is that contained? Saddam was embezzling money meant to go to his people through the oil-for-food program and spending it on terrorist activities in the Kurdish zone. Does that sound contained to you?

Yes, peace has ALWAYS historically been brought about by one country going to war against an aggressor country. It’s very simple history. Peace also comes from living true values as espoused in scriptures and supported by a loving God.

You must have me mistaken with someone else. The word “sacrifice” did not appear in my post. Not sure where the psycho babble, word games, or talking down are, maybe you can point them out.

As for the 1000+ Americans, I’m for leaving rather soon and not sacrificing them. You’re for staying, so you must think the inevitable casualties will be worth it. Every war has deaths, true. But there’s an important moral difference between having a war forced on you and starting one. For 12 years, we contained Iraq without a single American casualty (and a lot less Iraqi ones).

By the way, does it seem rational to you that we “bring peace” by starting a war?

I think I, more than most, understand the cost of freedom. I was wounded in Iraq AND lost friends. When you talk about “1000+ Americans” it’s just a number to you. I could ask, “what do YOU care?” WE are the ones suffering and sacrificing here. To answer your question, if it takes 1000+ Americans, myself included, to bring peace to the Middle East so that we are safer in the long run, then YES! That is what I’m giddy about.

Don’t patronize me with your psycho babble about sacrifice. I know what personal sacrifice is. I live with it daily. I’ve lived with it for 13 years now. You can play word games all you want, but don’t talk down to me about the possibility of Soldiers dying. You name me ONE war in which no one has died and no one has had to sacrifice. War is hell. It’s ugly, it sucks, it’s gruesome, it requires death, and it requires killing. It’s unfortunate, but it’s a reality you better start waking up to. Because if you don’t, those 1000+ dead Americans won’t be Soldiers and Marines. They’ll be John and Sue Public from Anytown, USA!!

Right. So what was Bush doing his first 8 months in office? You know, the time when the PDB appeared with the title “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US”? When he told a CIA briefer after being warned about imminent terrorist threats, “Alright, you’ve covered your ass, now”?

PS: It’s not Bush’s “fault” that he started the war in which “so many soldiers had lost their lives during his presidency”? Iraq had nothing to do with the 3 incidents you cited. So who are you going to blame this on?
