I enlisted in 1975 to get the GI Bill. I wound up doing 20 years and retired. I served proudly (my wife used to say I grew two inches every time I put on my dress uniform). I served my time in order to make sure the country I passed on to my sons was better than what I had when I grew up. I took the oath of enlistment seriously and it was always in the back of my mind (it still is, despite being a civilian for 10 years). I am proud of my service and take great pride in letting everyone know I spent a vast majority of my life in service to my country.
