Born and raised in MN, I am a retired military (E-8) enlisted man. The \another GI benefit\ might seem like a large thing to a civilian who has never served, but let me assure you, it is a small salary when you consider all the time away from family, out of country service, and the dangers that surround the occupations that we fulfill voluntarily. Liike many my age (72) I bemoan the loss of the Draft, not because I want others to suffer, but would very much appreciate the work ethic, dependablility, and can-do attitudes that ex-service routinely bring to the workplace and community. -- not to mention loyalty to the country and other patriotic values. I am not affronted by the comments of Bob Brower, but rather feel sorry for him because he does not get it... Without what we did... well, put it this way... the national language could be German or Japanese, and if we don't get on the stick about all this socialistic junk, it may end up yakking in Mandarin as a first language. Sorry Bob, you were wrong today at least once.

Mr. Bob Brower, I can only assume you did not serve in the Military. If true, quit your job and join up. If false, thanks for serving. As for a response on a exemption from State Income Tax for Military Pay, this is Federal Money earned outside the State of Minnesota. The State should not be allowed to take its cut.

Why on earth would the state of Minnesota want to increase our taxpayer burden to create yet another GI benefit, given that there already is a sufficient GI plan at the Federal level. What has changed since the Vietnam war where veterans need to be given redundant benefits plans.
